Learning Focus At Thayne Elementary
The learning focus at Thayne Elementary will be on reading, writing,
and mathematics. Wyoming state standards will guide instruction in these
areas.
Reading Thayne Elementary staff will teach each
child reading skills using a direct instruction program. The program we
have chosen to use is Reading Mastery. This program gives each student
a proven, systematic, instructional approach, that is geared to his or
her individual needs. Student progress is continually monitored and
changes made to see that each child is learning at the highest level
possible. The Reading Renaissance program will also be used to foster
the practice of the reading skills learned. This program sets
individual goals with students and lets them test their knowledge on the
books that they read.
Writing Thayne Elementary students will be
instructed daily on writing skills and given opportunity to practice
with what they learn. Correct handwriting form will be taught using the
Zaner Bloser model. Spelling will be taught and implemented in writing
activities.
Math Lincoln Co. School District #2 has implemented
the Harcourt Math program in all elementary schools. Students will be
assessed on concepts to be learned and then grouped and taught according
to their needs.
